یکی از مفاهیم اساسی در آموزش و پرورش کودکان و نوجوانان مفهوم اشتیاق تحصیلی است. اشتیاق تحصیلی از نظر لغوی به معنای میل و آرزوی چیزی را داشتن یا اینکه علاقه زیادی داشتن به امور و جنبه های یک کاری را گویند.که معمولا در مقابل بی میلی و بی رغبتی تعریف می شود اشتیاق تحصیلی به عنوان یک احساس تعلق و گرایش فرد به مشارکت در فعالیت های کلاسی، از نتایج مهم مدرسه در کنار موفقیت های آموزشگاهی است. اشتیاق تحصیلی می تواند شامل مشارکت در فعالیت های فوق برنامه مانند ورزش، موسیقی، تئاتر و کار جمعی که به وسیله مدرسه سازمان داده می شود باشد. اشتیاق تحصیلی همچنین مشارکت در امر یادگیری وظایف آموزشگاهی است است (بونیویله و همکاران، 2020).
